Naples is undoubtedly one of the world's cities with the highest density of cultural, artistic, and monumental resources and its historic city centre has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It is situated on the Gulf of Naples, on the western coast of southern Italy; it rises from sea level to an elevation of 450 metres (1,480 ft). It lies between two notable volcanic regions, Mount Vesuvius and the Campi Flegrei (Phlegraean Fields).
